Don Larsen had a strong outing at Candlestick Park where the San Francisco
Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds in 14 innings by the score of 7 to 4.
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. San Francisco came out
the victor in the 14th inning. Harvey Kuenn kicked off the action when he
laced a single. After an out was recorded, Willie Mays stepped in and he was
walked intentionally. After another out, Felipe Alou came up and he lost the
ball over the fence for three runs (his 1st of the season) making San
Francisco victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. For the game
San Francisco out-hit Cincinnati 18 to 6.
The victory went to Bobby Bolin(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Bill
Henry(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings
giving up 4 hits and 1 walk.
