At Forbes Field the Pittsburgh Pirates outscored the San Francisco Giants 5 to
2.
Pittsburgh jumped on top of San Francisco in the 5th inning when they scored 2
runs on 1 hit. The big moment was provided by Dick Schofield who made the
crowd come alive when he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 1st of
the season). San Francisco had 8 hits in the game while Pittsburgh had 4,
but Pittsburgh had the more timely hits.
The winning pitcher was Joe Gibbon(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 8 and 2/3
innings. Roy Face gained credit for his 7th save. Jack Sanford(1-3) was
given the loss. He surrendered 3 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.
