First baseman Orlando Cepeda had 5 hits and 2 RBI as the San Francisco Giants
defeated the Milwaukee Braves in 10 innings by the score of 6 to 5 at
Candlestick Park.
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. San Francisco won
the game in the 10th inning. After two were out Harvey Kuenn smashed a
bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 1st of the season) making San Francisco victorious
to the delight of the the home town crowd. San Francisco had 11 hits for the
afternoon.
Don Larsen(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Lew
Burdette(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. He allowed 2 hits and no
walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.
