Jack Sanford carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Wrigley Field where
the San Francisco Giants beat the Chicago Cubs by the score of 5 to
3.
Sanford(14-8) delivered a fine performance for San Francisco. He went 9
innings surrendering 6 hits and 3 walks. The right-handed Sanford had his
no-hit bid broken up by George Altman who doubled with nobody out in the 6th
inning. Chicago had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
The loss was charged to Cal Koonce(7-11). He pitched 6 innings giving up 7
hits and 3 walks. 'We lose our concentration for one pitch, and we lose the
game.' Chicago's manager said after the game. 'Maybe now these guys will
listen when I say they have to concentrate on EVERY pitch.'
