Shortstop Tony Taylor slammed a homerun at Candlestick Park as the
Philadelphia Phillies pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the San
Francisco Giants by the count of 6 to 5.
Philadelphia came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Taylor got things rolling
when he hit a bases-empty home run (his 6th of the season). One out later,
Tony Gonzalez came to the plate and drew a walk. Roy Sievers then drew a
walk. Don Demeter stepped in and he smacked a single scoring the final run
of the inning. Philadelphia had a total of 11 hits for the game.
Art Mahaffey(9-17) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
Jack Baldschun recorded his 15th save. Stu Miller(1-2) was hit with the loss
in relief.
Miller was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get
away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One
minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I
get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
