Chuck Hiller cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the impressive San Francisco
Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 5 to 3.
San Francisco had 4 runs cross the plate in the 6th inning with the help of 4
hits. The key at-bat was by Tom Haller who made the crowd happy when he
cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 17th of the season).
Pittsburgh made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.
Jim Duffalo(2-4) got the win allowing 1 run in 2 and 1/3 innings. Bob
Friend(11-8) was hit with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 6
innings.
'You have to give Pittsburgh credit, they fought us tough to the end' San
Francisco's manager said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we
pulled out the victory.'
