Jack Sanford pitched 9 strong innings at Candlestick Park where the
spectacular San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2 to 1.
San Francisco won the game with a run in the 8th inning. Sanford delivered a
single. Harvey Kuenn got his chance to keep things going, but he went down
on strikes. Manny Mota then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Willie Mays stepped
in and he ripped a base-knock scoring the run. Mays took second on the
throw. Los Angeles went down without a fight in the 9th.
Sanford(13-8) allowed 1 run on the game. Ed Roebuck(4-5) ended up with the
loss in relief. 'He came out with good stuff,' San Francisco's manager said
about Sanford. 'He threw the ball good from the first pitch on.'
