39,518 fans watched an exciting game at Candlestick Park. The indomitable San
Francisco Giants topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by the slimmest of margins, 3
to 2.
San Francisco went ahead for good in the 3rd inning plating an isolated run.
That was all Billy Pierce(11-4) needed. Neither team managed to score after
the 3rd inning.
Stu Miller was credited with his 18th save. Earl Francis(5-8) was given the
loss. He surrendered 6 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings.
