Right fielder Harvey Kuenn had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the incredible San
Francisco Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 5 to 4 at
Forbes Field.
San Francisco won the game with a run in the top of the 8th inning. Chuck
Hiller laced a base-knock. Juan Marichal stepped up to the plate and he laid
down a sacrifice bunt. Kuenn then doubled scoring the run. Despite losing,
Pittsburgh out-hit San Francisco 13 to 9.
Marichal(14-2) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Stu Miller gained credit for his 16th save. Diomedes Olivo(3-3) was tagged
with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits and 1
walk.
The winning ways continue for San Francisco. They now have a record of 8-2 in
recent days. Pittsburgh has a record of 48-51 after the loss.
