Billy Pierce took a no-hitter into the 9th inning at Colt Stadium where the

San Francisco Giants beat the Houston Colt 45's in 10 innings 2 to 0.

The run-column was full of goose eggs at the end of nine full innings. San

Francisco was victorious in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded,

Willie Mays was the sparkplug when he drew a walk. After another out, Felipe

Alou stepped up to the plate and he lifted one out of the park for a two run

home run (his 16th of the season). San Francisco had a total of 8 hits for

the game.

It was the 3rd shutout of the year for Pierce(10-4). The left-handed Pierce

lost his no-hit bid when Bob Lillis singled with two outs in the 9th inning.

Hal Woodeshick(2-12) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 8 hits and 6 walks

in 10 innings.
