Third baseman Jim Davenport had 2 base hits as the San Francisco Giants topped

the Milwaukee Braves by a score of 2 to 0 at Candlestick Park.



San Francisco came up with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning when they

had 3 base hits. Davenport kicked off the action when he banged out a

single. Willie Mays followed and he delivered a one-base hit. Bob Hendley

then let loose a wild pitch resulting in a run. Two outs later Willie

McCovey came up and he was walked intentionally. Jose Pagan stepped into the

box and drew a walk to load the bases. Chuck Hiller did his part to keep

things going and stroked a single scoring the final run of the inning. Stu

Miller pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 11th save.



Juan Marichal(10-2) went 8 innings allowing no runs for the win. The losing

pitcher was Hendley(5-7). He pitched 6 innings giving up 6 hits and 4 walks.
