The San Francisco Giants tallied 4 runs in the 2nd inning and defeated the
Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 4 to 1 at Candlestick Park.
Jack Sanford(8-7) had a solid outing for San Francisco. He allowed 6 hits and
1 walk in 8 and 1/3 innings improving his ERA from 4.29 to 4.08. After the
3rd inning, neither team was able to score.
Sanford got relief help from Stu Miller who gained credit for his 13th save.
Dennis Bennett(6-6) suffered the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he did
not allow an earned run in his 7 innings of work.
