Matty Alou had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Candlestick Park where the San
Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 8 to 7.
San Francisco came up with 6 runs in the 6th inning with the help of 6 hits.
The highlight belonged to Jim Davenport who made the home-town crowd a happy
bunch when he smashed a two-run homer (his 7th of the season). The St. Louis
bats were silent in the 9th.
Billy Pierce(7-2) got the win allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. Pierce got relief
help from Stu Miller who gained credit for his 10th save. Ray Washburn(3-8)
was charged with the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 5 and 2/3
innings of work.
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Pierce said.
