In a tight game it was the St. Louis Cardinals 4, the San Francisco Giants 2

at Sportsman's Park.

St. Louis went ahead for good in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring one

runner on 2 hits. San Francisco had a chance in the 9th but they came up

short.

Ray Sadecki(1-0) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Sadecki

got help from Lindy McDaniel who was credited with his 8th save. The losing

pitcher was Mike McCormick(4-3).

San Francisco's manager was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure,

this kind of loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all

professionals. We've been through this many times - it's the nature of the

game. We'll be fine - as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'
