Ernie Broglio allowed St. Louis' manager to rest his bullpen, tossing a
complete game as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the San Francisco Giants by
the score of 9 to 1 at Sportsman's Park.
St. Louis jumped on top of San Francisco in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on 2
hits. After an out was recorded, Ken Boyer started the attack as he lofted a
solo-blast 'downtown' (his 9th of the season). Carl Sawatski next to the
plate and he smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 5th of the season). That
scoring would be all that was needed. St. Louis managed 10 in their victory.
The victory went to Broglio(6-4) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Jack
Sanford(4-6) suffered the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up
7 runs in 3 innings.
