The San Francisco Giants nipped the Cincinnati Reds 5 to 4 at Candlestick Park
in a hard fought contest.
In the 2nd inning San Francisco scored 3 runs with the help of 3 hits. The
crucial at-bat was provided by Chuck Hiller who came through for the home
fans when he cracked a two-run shot (his 3rd of the season). Cincinnati
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Billy Pierce(8-2) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings.
Pierce was helped out by Stu Miller who recorded his 12th save. Jim
O'Toole(2-9) suffered the loss.
The San Francisco ballclub's record now stands at a league leading 47-27.
With the loss, Cincinnati has a record of 3-7 lately, 33-38 overall.
