Frank Howard cleared three ducks from a very crowded pond with a grand slam at
Candlestick Park where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants
by the score of 9 to 4.
Howard was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam
homerun (his 17th of the season) in the 5th inning and doubled in the 7th
inning. Overall Los Angeles out-hit San Francisco 12 to 6.
The victory was credited to Don Drysdale(12-8) who went 7 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 4 runs. Drysdale was helped out by Ron Perranoski who recorded his
9th save. Mike McCormick(5-5) suffered the loss. He allowed 5 hits and 2
walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.
