Billy Pierce whitewashed Philadelphia on 1 hit as the San Francisco Giants
defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 4 to 0 at Candlestick
Park.
Pierce(9-2) was simply too much for the Philadelphia batters. He allowed just
1 hit and 1 walk in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.45 to 3.09. San
Francisco finished with 9 hits in the victory.
Cal McLish(9-4) took the loss. 'Pierce took our guys to school'
Philadelphia's manager said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch for us - it would make
my job a whole lot easier!'
