Juan Marichal blanked Chicago in a very well-pitched complete game and Orlando
Cepeda hit 2 doubles and had 6 RBI at Wrigley Field as the San Francisco
Giants belted the Chicago Cubs by the count of 14 to 0.
Cepeda had a big day at the plate. He doubled plating two runs in the 3rd
inning, stroked a one-base hit which was good for two runs in the 5th inning
and doubled plating two runs in the 8th inning. San Francisco managed 15 in
their victory.
Marichal(7-2) was credited with the shutout. Bob Buhl(1-7) was hit with the
loss. He was unable to control the San Francisco offense and allowed 9 hits
and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed. Man alive, things were getting awfully
grim,' noted San Francisco's manager. 'Now, we need to string a bunch of
wins together and turn things around!'
