Jay Hook pitched a complete game and Frank Thomas had 2 base hits as the New

York Mets defeated the reeling San Francisco Giants by the score of 4 to 3 at

Shea Stadium.



New York scored the deciding run in the 8th inning. Jim Hickman lined a

base-hit. Richie Ashburn came next and he hit a single. Chris Cannizzaro

then slapped a single scoring the run. New York had a total of 10 hits for

the game.



Hook(3-7) allowed 3 runs on the game. Billy O'Dell(6-4) was given the loss.

The New York ballclub's record now stands at 17-36. With this loss, San

Francisco has a 4-6 record of late, 32-22 overall.
