Al Jackson went 9 strong innings at Shea Stadium where the New York Mets beat

the San Francisco Giants 3 to 0.

New York drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning

scoring one runner. That scoring would be all that was needed. The pitchers

took over after the 2nd inning as neither team was able to score again.

Jackson(2-8) was credited with the shutout. Jack Sanford(3-5) ended up with

the loss. He pitched 8 innings allowing only 3 hits and 3 walks.

'Jackson just dominated us' losing pitcher Sanford said. 'Hopefully we can

get to him the next time around'
