Willie Mays launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Juan Marichal tossed a

complete game as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by

a score of 9 to 2 at Candlestick Park.

Mays enjoyed a great evening at the plate. Every time he came up in the

latter innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering. He delivered a solo

blast in the 3rd inning, rifled a three-run blast (his 8th of the season) in

the 6th inning and doubled in the 8th inning. San Francisco finished with 16

hits in the victory.

The win was credited to Marichal(2-2) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs.

The loss was charged to Bob Friend(2-2). He was touched for 3 homeruns in

his 5 innings of work.

With this win, San Francisco has a 11-10 record. They have been 4-6 lately.

With the loss Pittsburgh now has a record of 12-9.
