Roy Sievers jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI at Candlestick Park

as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Francisco Giants by the count of 9

to 8.

Philadelphia scored the decisive runs in a big 8th inning with 3 runs using 3

hits. Sievers led off and started the attack as he doubled. Sammy White

stepped up next and he stroked a single. Gonzalez then stole second base.

Bobby Wine dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Frank Torre

stepped into the box and was hit by a pitch. Wes Covington added to the

outburst and doubled bringing in two baserunners. Tony Taylor next to the

plate and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning. San

Francisco threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Jack Hamilton(3-5) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the

victory. Paul Brown got the save, his 1st. Bobby Bolin(4-1) ended up with

the loss in relief.

Philadelphia's manager was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making

good contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love

winning these tight ones! It was just our evening - no doubt about it!'
