Third baseman Jim Davenport launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Juan
Marichal pitched a complete game as the San Francisco Giants destroyed the
New York Mets by a score of 18 to 2 at Candlestick Park.
Davenport enjoyed a great day at the plate. He doubled in the 1st inning,
blasted a solo shot in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 4th inning and smashed
a two-run homer (his 4th of the season) in the 5th inning. San Francisco
provided plenty of action in the 4th inning when they had 5 runs on 6 hits
and the 5th inning with 7 runs on 4 hits. San Francisco rapped out 21 hits
for the afternoon.
Marichal(6-2) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Al
Jackson(1-7) suffered the loss. He was unable to control the San Francisco
offense and allowed 13 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.
