Orlando Cepeda had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the San Francisco Giants defeated the
Houston Colt 45's by a score of 9 to 3 at Candlestick Park.
Cepeda provided much of the offense. He belted a three-run homer (his 9th of
the season) in the 1st inning, singled in the 3rd inning, stroked a single in
the 5th inning and doubled knocking in a run in the 7th inning. San
Francisco had 16 hits for the afternoon while Houston had 8.
The winning pitcher was Billy O'Dell(4-3) who allowed 3 runs in 7 and 2/3
innings. The losing pitcher was Jim Golden(3-4). He gave up 9 runs in 6 and
2/3 innings of work.
Cepeda said, 'It was just all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate
tonight. You've got to take advantage of mistakes when you can. A couple
pitches were definitely up a little bit - right in my zone.'
