Jack Sanford completed the game without help from the bullpen at Candlestick

Park where the strong San Francisco Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the

score of 5 to 2.



San Francisco took the lead for good in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they

tallied 2 runs on 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Orlando Cepeda who made

the crowd come alive when he smashed a two-run homer (his 34th of the

season). San Francisco managed 10 in their victory.



Sanford(18-9) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. The losing

pitcher was Bob Friend(14-10). He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and 2

walks in 5 innings.
