Friend(15-10) simply dominated San Francisco.  He gave up just 3 hits and 1

walk in 9 innings.  Pittsburgh totaled 7 on the afternoon.  Billy

Pierce(14-7) was tagged with the loss.  He was a hard-luck loser as he did

not allow an earned run in his 7 innings of work.  

 

Pittsburgh's manager was very impressed with his pitcher, Friend, 'He had

unusually good pitch placement this afternoon.  It was almost unfair - but a

beautiful game to watch from where I sat'
