Catcher Carl Sawatski rocketed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the St. Louis
Cardinals defeated the San Francisco Giants by the score of 11 to 5 at
Candlestick Park.
Sawatski enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He rifled a three-run blast in
the 1st inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 19th of the season)
in the 8th inning. St. Louis had 14 hits for the night while San Francisco
had 10.
Bob Gibson(13-15) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Jack
Sanford(19-10) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 6 runs and 8 hits in 6
innings.
