Felipe Alou had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the phenomenal San Francisco Giants topped
the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 9 to 7 at Candlestick Park.
Billy Pierce(14-6) pitched well enough to earn the win. He went 8 innings
allowing 10 hits and no walks and was touched for 2 homeruns. Pittsburgh
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Stu Miller gained credit for his 19th save. Earl Francis(8-10) suffered the
loss in relief. He gave up 5 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work.
San Francisco now has a record of a league leading 92-52. With this loss,
Pittsburgh has a 4-6 record of late, 72-74 overall.
