Juan Marichal pitched 9 strong innings at Candlestick Park as the San

Francisco Giants beat the Chicago Cubs by the count of 2 to

0.

Marichal(18-5) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Chicago

hitters. He surrendered only 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Chicago could

do no damage in the 9th.

The loss was charged to Don Cardwell(11-9). He allowed 5 hits and no walks in

5 innings. 'When Marichal is on like that it is a tough game to play, no

doubt about it,' Chicago's manager said. 'He always pitches well against us.'
