Jay Hook was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete

game as the New York Mets won at Shea Stadium in dramatic fashion over the

San Francisco Giants, the final score, 7 to 6.

The deciding run was scored by New York in the bottom of the 9th. Elio Chacon

drew a walk. New York's manager then called for a steal which was

successful. Charlie Neal then delivered a one-base hit making New York the

victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Despite scoring in 6

separate innings, San Francisco could not get the win.

Hook(7-15) finished the game allowing 6 runs in the victory. Bobby Bolin(8-7)

took the loss in relief. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not

allow an earned run in the game.

'He gutted it out' New York's manager said of Hook. 'I was very impressed by

his tenacity.'
