Don Demeter had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago
Cubs by a score of 8 to 7.
Demeter led the offense for Philadelphia. He delivered a single in the 2nd
inning, singled in the 3rd inning, laced a one-base hit in the 6th inning and
smacked a three-run homer (his 41st of the season) in the 7th inning.
Chicago threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Cal McLish(16-9) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 6
runs. Jack Baldschun earned his 18th save. Dick Ellsworth(8-20) ended up
with the loss in relief.
'He gutted it out' Philadelphia's manager said of McLish. 'I was very
impressed by his tenacity.'

Carl Warwick ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Dick Farrell tossed a
complete game as the Houston Colt 45's smashed the overmatched Los Angeles
Dodgers, 11 to 1.
Warwick enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He smashed a two-run homer in the
3rd inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 25th of the
season) in the 5th inning. Houston finished with 12 hits in the victory.
Farrell(18-12) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Joe Moeller(7-6)
was the losing pitcher. By surrending 7 runs in 2 innings his ERA jumped
from 5.71 to 6.19.
NEW YORK AT MILWAUKEE

Mack Jones collected 2 extra-base hits and had 5 RBI and Warren Spahn was able
to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game at County
Stadium where the Milwaukee Braves beat the New York Mets 7 to 1.
Jones made sure the Milwaukee fans enjoyed themselves. He smacked a single in
the 1st inning, tripled scoring two baserunners in the 3rd inning and doubled
clearing all three ducks off the pond. in the 6th inning. Milwaukee managed
8 in their victory.
The win went to Spahn(22-12) who allowed 1 run in the game. Bob Miller(7-15)
took the loss. Milwaukee scored big getting 7 runs off him in 5 and 2/3
innings.
PITTSBURGH AT CINCINNATI

In a close game it was the Pittsburgh Pirates 7, the Cincinnati Reds 5 at
Riverfront Stadium.
Pittsburgh jumped on top to stay in the 7th inning scoring 2 runners on 1 hit.
Pittsburgh took care of Cincinnati with no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
The victory was credited to Diomedes Olivo(8-4) who went 4 innings, allowing
no runs. Ted Wills(5-8) suffered the loss in relief. It was a tough loss for
him as he did not allow an earned run in his 3 and 1/3 innings of work.
ST. LOUIS AT SAN FRANCISCO

The phenomenal San Francisco Giants defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by a
score of 5 to 2 at Candlestick Park.
Jim Duffalo(4-5) pitched in relief and was credited with the victory. He went
1 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits and no walks. For the game San Francisco
out-hit St. Louis 11 to 6.
Stu Miller recorded the save, his 21st. Ray Washburn(8-13) was given the
loss. He allowed 4 runs and 9 hits in 7 and 2/3 innings.
