In a close game the St. Louis Cardinals got by the San Francisco Giants by the

St. Louis set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring 3 runners on 3
hits. That early scoring was all that Larry Jackson(11-16) needed. For the
game St. Louis out-hit San Francisco 9 to 5.
Jackson got help from Don Ferrarese who earned his 4th save. Billy
Pierce(14-8) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 9 hits and no walks in 8
innings.
